Why
Wool has a high ignition temperature, 570-600 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is less likely to catch fire than cotton, for example, which ignites at 225 degrees.

Wool is biodegradable. After years and years, if you manage to use your pad enough that it becomes a threadbare rag, you can be confident that it will biodegrade without any high-tech help. Wool resists microorganisms like those that break down proteins during the biodegradation process, but wool will break down if it is kept warm and wet for a year. This slow decomposition is what makes wool desirable is mulch mats or weed mats.
